Cecilia Stalín Quintett
I started out when I moved to Stockholm to play in different constallations
of jazzmusicians in the city. I played at Fashing Jazzclub in Stockholm
twice a month singing standards in different projects (Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald,
Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderly) and playing at Stampen Swingclub with my Cecilia Stalin
Swingband once a month and original jazz at Nalen Jazzclub. Keeping buzy!
At my year in New York City I got to play with some great musicians like
Harry Withaker, Charles Tolliver, Reggie Workman, Buster Williams and so on
and got the inspiration to start an american band with some kids from school.
I did and we recorded an album called 'Plays' with mostly jazzstandards
that I arranged.
Today I have my own band - still playing my own compositions but
I also do arrangements of songs I like. It could be standards, swedish folksongs,
lullabys or Beatles songs. Any melody that sticks to my head is a good arrangement
piece. I think my musical horizons have been broaded and my palett bigger
as my life experience expands so I'm looking forward to see what's around
the corner. I now play with a great group of swedish musicians in Stockholm
that all have their own personal sound and that's very valuble to me!

I met Oskar Simonsson och Magnus Sigmark in Uppsala 1995 at a releaseparty for
a 'James Last tribute' cd. I was singing with a bigband at the time and they had
heard what I did and contacted me. I sang on their 'secret' demo that they sent to Clean Up Records (in London)
witch became the Ep "Glömd". I heard from them again when they were about to do their first album
"Sons of Koop" they wanted me to sing on two tracks - the 1st single "Glomd" and on "Jellyfishes".
It was a fun summer 1997 because Koop was asked to play at the Lollipop musicfestival and Lydmar Hotell and
they asked me to join them. Live music has always been my forum and I love beeing on stage - so this was very exciting.
Two years later Koop called me to ask me to sing for another single called "Waltz
for Koop" this time for their secound cd named the same "Waltz for Koop". The
single hit the roof in Europe thru Dj Gilles Peterson(Giant Step) when
he picked it up on his radioshow toplist and compilation! From Giant Steps
web page:
-"To this end BBC Radio One's highly esteemed DJ Gilles Peterson confidently
exclaimed, "The album of the year has already arrived!" He even included the
title track on his UK only "Worldwide" album.
"Waltz For Koop" was the first track to be recorded for the album and was a breakthrough,
it set the standard for the album. Shorter and sweeter than anything previously
coming from the Koop studio the Waltz is one of those tunes that will make any
season feel like summertime, with Cecilia Stalin's zero gravity vocal delivery
complementing the soaring strings perfectly." In spring 2000 I got the chance to go to New York City to performe with Koop
at a big swedish fair. It was the magazine Stockholm-New York that arranged it
for swedish companies to get recognition in New York and Disel Records
were invited. They picked out Koop, Titiyo and Stephen Simmonds to represent
them and it was a huge succes. That was the start for Koop....

Tamala is a group of great diversity. It was started by three
West African musicians Lamin Cissokho, Omar Joof and Younoussa Silla representing the
whole west coast and it's music. Since spring 2005 myselfe and Bengt Jonasson on
electric bass has joined the group adding jazz and swedish folkmusic to the table.
Tamala means - Traveling - and that is the soul purpose of the band -
to travel with and within music. We take old traditional songs and mix them up
with new melodies, jazzstandards or ad lib on them to make it into something new and exciting.
It's a great mix of old and new!
When I heard Stina Nordenstam in 2000 I was knocked right off my feet! I never knew that there
could be such beauty and intelligence in music. She was the one who made me pick up my old nylon guitarr
and start making music again but this time a totaly unpretentious acoustic singer/songwriter style.
Because of the incredible access to studios at my school and incredible musicians who love to
play I reorded some of my popideas. I got some gigs at cafes/festivals in Stockholm and got a good response.
As a jazzvocalist that made me realize how simple music must be - how not to complicate! Next step was to do my
own production and with a little help and encouragement from Per I got to work with one of swedens best pop producers - Pal Svenre!
(working with Robyn, Weeping Willows, Christian Falk, Rebecca Tornqvist, The Real Group and many more). He's a
great person, producer, pianist and stringarranger so there are a lot of channels to drain for information. I was
working with him for half a year before I came to NYC and that was such an experience - fun and inspiering!
Big Architects in the sky is a great rockband originated from
Nyköping south of Stockholm. It's the typical garage rockband that's been playing
for a significant time and during that time developed a uniqe sound. In fall 2004
I got the offer to do some backup vocals for the band and it was a perfect match.
So since feburay 2005 I am proud to say that I am officially the backup vocalist,
co-harmony writer and tamburinist in the band.
David Panda is an amazing house producer from Sweden. I met David at Glen Miller Cafe
in 2002. He had just used one of my musician friends for a recording and we started talking.
He had heard me with Koop and wanted to work together so we started to collaborate on some of his productions.
His style is very melodic witch suits me perfectly and so we started working together. We made one
song and sent it out to some european record companies and we got picked up directly by Dessous
Recordings in Germany.
We continued working together but my trip to NYC unfortunately intrerupted us a little bit...
But now we're back on track and soon the funk's gonna hit the fan!
I met Felix when I was in London autum 2002. A friend had
contacted him about a job and mentioned my name and Felix ended up e-mailing me about working together.
I went to Brixton a sunny day (very rare in London) and chilled for a while. We listened to some of my
music and he told me about his publishing company and about the artists that he's working with. He told me that
he had an artist called Waiwan that was gonna release an album pretty soon and that he would love for us to
collaborate. I got a cd with Waiwans beats and they sounded ripe - just for me - so I wrote a song for his new
album called "Summer Coming" - he did a killing mix of it!
I've met John thru my very good friend Gregory Christie (painter-NYC's
best). Since I didn't know much about house music when I came to
New York John became my 'house mentor' and 'co-nector' *smile*!
John has hooked me up with people like Niel Aline at 'Chez Music', Julius Papp, Takuya Nakamura, Dj Reda
and many more. Let's live and make music!!!! I also got the chance to
work with his very talented brother Dave Warrin and that is still going on... patience friends!

Is what I love to do! To back up a rapper is amazing! They know what it's all about - IMPORVISATION!
I have worked with Mike Slim - a rapper and crew from The Bronx who has a fresh sound (mix of Q-Tip and Jay-Z). He just
released his first cd called 'Introducing Mike Slim' and it's a great album. The beat professor Bret Puchir
(also guitarrist) lays out a carpet of intelligent polyrythms for Mike to step on. It was challenging for me but the track
came out 'hot'!!! Check it!
Is my Motownband that I've been playing with for 5 years. It's an amazing 11-piece band feat.
3 vocalists singing old school soul from the 60's and early 70's. We put the effort into the show - making sure that
people is communicating with us and having fun! We sing, dance and have special clothes for our shows - making
sure that the audience is constantly surprised and entertained. The band is based on 3 horns and a rythm
section with enough power to keep you dancing the entire night! We have fun on stage and that means that you'll
have fun on the dancefloor - THAT we guarantee!
We've litteraly played all over Sweden from Liljevalchs yearly artshow in Stockholm to Grand Hotel in Lund
for both privat- and public parties.
I have a secound passion in life and that is dancing. I remember when I used to be
in dance competitions in third grade and everybody would look at me because I would dance differently -
I won at least once *smile*! Dancing has never been anything that I would have thought I could make a career
out of but the last couple of years I've been training and performing with a street-dance group called 'Sequence'
in Stockholm. The group contains of 8 girls all with individual skills and personalities and the group focus is
the dance-not showing bodyparts *lol*. It's a highly skilled group!!! I also performed in a music video
for a dance artist called 'Dallas Superstars' (Stockholm Records) - "Helium" - it was fun. Imagine doing 'Locking'
to 190 bpm (check out my links *lol*). Nowdays, I focus on my singing and try to hit the
dancefloor as often as possible instead!
